Your new role involves joining the Parks Team at Southend City Council as a permanent, full-time Arboricultural Officer. The post holder will carry out regular inspections and arrange necessary work on council-owned trees, including those on the highway, in parks, woodlands, housing land, and schools, and raise orders using the Ezytreev system. Responsibilities include identifying suitable areas and species for tree planting, responding to resident enquiries, and providing arboricultural advice to officers and members.
Quality assurance and monitoring are important parts of the job, as well as keeping accurate, up-to-date records. Tree inspections will include ad-hoc checks in response to enquiries from residents, councillors, other departments, and stakeholders, including insurance-related enquiries. Southend City Council is committed to maintaining and extending the canopy cover in the city, making planning and delivering tree planting programmes an important part of the role.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your personal skill set while undertaking a wide range of tree management tasks. A full UK driving licence is essential.
What you'll need to succeed:
- A nationally recognised qualification in Arboriculture (e.g., HND Arboriculture) and demonstrable experience and knowledge of tree husbandry and arboricultural management techniques.
- Experience in using IT applications for arboriculture such as Ezytreev.
- Adaptability and flexibility to prioritise workloads, work under pressure, and manage high workloads.
- High standards of oral and written communication.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with others and establish positive relationships with the public and local elected members.
- Experience and knowledge of contact and dealings with the public.
