Your new role involves joining the Ageing Well West Service at Southend Council as a permanent full-time Social Worker. The Ageing Well Service provides assessment and review functions for older adults and those with mental ill health. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Social Worker to work in and around Southend City, aiming to offer appropriate support at the right place and time.

The main aim of the team is to use a strengths-based approach to enable people to live safely in the community, maximising their abilities to care for themselves and supporting carers in their roles. The team works creatively with individuals and their carers to empower them and identify individual and community-based assets, understanding their strengths, assets, and wishes to maximise their potential for independence.

Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available, but you are required to be on-site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week. If you are passionate and highly motivated about developing services from a health and social care perspective, we would like to hear from you. In return, we will offer professional supervision, appraisal, and regular training.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • You must be able to work in the UK.
  • Have a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
  • Have completed your ASYE.
  • Current experience in the Adult Social Care sector.
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with other agencies/professionals at all levels.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Skills in assessment of carers and the ability to provide support and guidance to them.
  • Experience of applying the Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act (2005), and managing adult safeguarding enquiries or a good understanding/knowledge if no direct experience is available.
