About the Opportunity
We're delighted to be partnering with a large, well-established organisation in Peterborough to recruit an experienced Interim Senior Technical Financial Accountant on a 6-9 month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, qualified accountant to join a complex and evolving organisation in a key finance role. Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will take ownership of statutory reporting, technical accounting, financial governance, tax compliance and year-end reporting activities, whilst supporting ongoing finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to deliver high-quality financial reporting within a complex environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end financial reporting.
- Ensuring compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP, taxation requirements and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Managing VAT, Corporation Tax and other tax compliance activities.
- Overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, accruals, provisions and financial controls.
- Acting as the technical accounting lead, providing guidance on complex accounting and reporting matters.
- Managing relationships with external auditors and coordinating annual audit requirements.
- Reviewing and enhancing financial controls, governance frameworks and reporting processes.
- Partnering with finance and operational stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Leading, developing and mentoring a small finance team.
- Supporting finance transformation, systems improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this Senior Technical Financial Accountant position, you will be a qualified accountant with strong financial reporting, statutory accounts and technical accounting experience gained within a complex organisation, practice environment or regulated sector.
Essential Requirements
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Strong post-qualification experience within financial accounting, technical accounting or financial reporting roles.
- Significant audit experience gained within practice or industry.
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP, statutory reporting and tax compliance.
- Proven experience managing year-end reporting processes and statutory accounts preparation.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Demonstrable experience improving financial processes, controls and reporting frameworks.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a large, complex, public sector or charitable organisation.
- Finance transformation, change management or process improvement experience.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Experience leveraging AI technologies, including Microsoft Copilot, to enhance finance processes and efficiencies.
