An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Newton Abbot. This is a broad and commercially focused role that will see you working closely with senior leadership and operational teams, providing accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis and decision support across the business.
The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the organisation manage costs, margins, cashflow and business performance whilst supporting ongoing growth and operational improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit & loss, balance sheet and cashflow reporting.
- Deliver detailed variance analysis and commentary against budget, forecast and prior period performance.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and longer-term financial plans.
- Monitor manufacturing costs, labour utilisation, overheads, margins and overall business performance.
- Work closely with operational stakeholders to provide commercial insight and support decision-making.
- Support cashflow forecasting and working capital management.
- Analyse debtor, creditor and stock movements.
- Assist with job costing, project costing and profitability analysis.
- Prepare and review key balance sheet reconciliations.
- Produce KPIs, dashboards and management reports for senior leadership.
- Prepare VAT returns and support statutory reporting requirements.
- Assist with month-end, year-end and audit processes.
- Maintain and improve financial controls, reporting processes and systems.
- Support finance system improvements, data integrity initiatives and process automation projects.
- Undertake ad-hoc financial analysis and project work as required.
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience within a Management Accountant or similar role.
- Manufacturing or engineering sector experience would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of management accounts, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Experience working closely with operational and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong Excel and systems skills.
- Commercially minded with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insight.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Proactive and hands-on, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Comfortable working within an SME environment where priorities can evolve.
