Hays are proud to support a City Council seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Deputy Chief Accountant to join its high-performing Finance Team.
This role would suit either of the following:
- A newly qualified CIPFA or ACCA accountant ready to advance in Local Government Finance
- An ACA newly qualified accountant from practice looking to make their first move (Public Sector Audit is a bonus)
Your New Role
As Deputy Chief Accountant, you will:
- Lead on technical financial services including treasury management, VAT, and capital financing.
- Support the production of the annual Statement of Accounts and manage the external audit process.
- Provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders, cabinet members, and project teams.
- Contribute to the development of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy and Capital Strategy.
- Represent finance in corporate projects and system implementations.
What You\'ll Need to Succeed
- CCAB qualification (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with senior-level experience.
- Strong understanding of local authority finance, VAT, and the Prudential Code.
- Proven ability to analyse complex financial data and present it clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in treasury management, capital projects, and financial planning.
- A collaborative, innovative, and solutions-focused approach.
