A large and complex organisation in Devon is seeking an experienced interim Senior Tax Manager to lead its tax function and provide strategic tax leadership across a diverse group structure. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this is a senior leadership role responsible for all aspects of tax compliance, reporting, governance and advisory services. You will lead a specialist team, support year-end and audit processes, and act as the organisation's subject matter expert on tax matters.

The Role

  • Leading and developing the Tax Team, promoting high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing all tax compliance and reporting activities, ensuring adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing tax computations and supporting the preparation of financial statements for subsidiary entities.
  • Supporting year-end processes and working closely with external auditors.
  • Reviewing and enhancing tax policies, procedures and controls.
  • Identifying tax-saving opportunities and advising on tax-efficient structures and approaches.
  • Acting as the organisation's technical expert on tax legislation and regulatory developments.
  • Providing proactive tax advice to senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Producing high-quality reporting and analysis to support decision-making and governance requirements.
  • Representing Finance at internal committees and working groups.

About You

  • A recognised CCAB accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
  • A recognised tax qualification and/or significant tax accounting experience.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge gained within a large or complex organisation.
  • Experience preparing tax computations and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Previous experience leading and developing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to explain complex tax matters to non-finance audiences.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Education, charity or not-for-profit sector experience.
  • Knowledge of charity and/or education sector tax legislation.
  • International tax exposure.
  • Experience leading business change, process improvement or transformation.
