Job Opportunity: In-House Town Planner

I’m working with a fast-growing Architectural practice in Southampton who is seeking an experienced Town Planner to join their team. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to solving the housing crisis and increasing the supply of homes throughout Southampton and the local area. This role provides the opportunity for a Planner to influence the planning process from inception and take greater control of the projects they’re working on.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • RTPI recognised qualification.
  • Degree in Town Planning or a related field.
  • MRTPI is not required for this role.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the Town Planning field.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and excellent written and spoken English.
  • Public or private sector candidates welcome.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Apply Planning Policy, NPPF, and PD rights to devise strategies and maximise project outcomes in collaboration with the architect team.
  • Prepare, submit, and follow up on Planning Applications.
  • Draft Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements, and other internal reports, assessments, and surveys.
  • Assist in designing and systemising internal office processes and documentation.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and statutory authorities, attending all necessary visits and meetings to deliver projects.
  • Occasionally attend Planning Committee Meetings.
