I am currently working in partnership with a national real estate advisory company who are seeking a Senior Business Rate Surveyor to Associate Director to join their business. The company is currently going through a growth stage and due to an increase in instruction, are looking to make some key hires for the business.
Your new role:
- Business Rates Management: Overseeing and managing business rates liabilities for a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring accurate assessments and cost reductions where possible.
- Client Advisory: Providing strategic advice to clients on business rates reliefs, exemptions, and mitigation strategies.
- Rate Appeals & Reductions: Identify opportunities for business rate appeals, challenge assessments with the Valuation Office and negotiate reductions where relevant.
- Valuation & Analysis: Conducting property valuations for business rates purposes and assessing the impact of rating revaluations on client portfolios.
- Overseeing Compliance & Regulations: Ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation, including the Local Government Finance Act and Valuation Office Agency (VOA) regulations / Duty to Notify.
- Engaging with local councils: Resolving business rates and BID issues.
- Conducting regular reviews: Of client portfolios to ensure accurate business rates assessments and identify cost-saving opportunities. Face to face meetings and updates with clients.
- Preparing detailed reports: Financial analyses and case files for clients, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all assessments.
- Working alongside colleagues: In property management, valuation, and legal teams to provide a fully encompassed client service.
What you’ll get in return:
- Salary ranges from £55,000 - £85,000 depending on level and experience and performance-based bonuses.

What you’ll need to succeed:
- MRICS status (or working towards it) is essential.
- Minimum of 3-10 years’ experience in business rates advisory, commercial property valuation, or related fields. Valuation Tribunal experience.
- Strong understanding of UK business rates legislation, rating appeals, and valuation methods.
- Ability to assess complex business rate calculations and identify opportunities for reductions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with clients and authorities.
- Competency in property management and rating software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- A proactive and strategic approach to business rates challenges and cost-saving initiatives.
