Hays are delighted to be partnering with a well-established and growing distribution business in South Wales to recruit an experienced Transport Manager. Your New Role

As Transport Manager, you will take responsibility for the overall management and optimisation of transport operations, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of products to customers. You will provide leadership to the transport team while driving operational performance, cost efficiency, and service excellence across the fleet operation.

  • Managing day-to-day transport operations, including fleet management, route planning, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Leading, developing, and motivating the transport team to achieve operational objectives.
  • Ensuring full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation, and driver hours regulations.
  • Promoting a strong health and safety culture and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
  • Managing transport incidents, breakdowns, and operational disruptions whilst maintaining service levels.
  • Monitoring transport KPIs, analysing performance data, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Managing budgets and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Building strong relationships with warehouse and customer service teams to ensure effective communication and delivery performance.
  • Producing operational reports and making recommendations to improve service delivery and fleet utilisation.
  • Driving initiatives that improve safety, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
  • Proven experience within a Transport Manager position.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, tachograph compliance, and driver hours legislation.
  • Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS), telematics, scheduling software, and transport reporting systems.
  • Demonstrable experience managing budgets and delivering cost savings.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing and engaging teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience monitoring KPIs and driving operational improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
