Your new role
The school are now looking for a Teaching Assistant to support the Year 3 Class working on a 1:1 basis supporting a child with ASD access the curriculum. As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, your job is to enhance and enrich the learning of the pupil in your care. You will work hard to ensure the pupil is constantly engaged with the overall aim of improving their learning experience.
You will ensure the pupil stays on task with all work and where required, challenge them to deliver when they are struggling. The ability to communicate clearly is essential, as is the need to explain the process behind problem-solving in subjects without necessarily giving answers. A successful Teaching Assistant must also be committed as pupils, who need 1:1 support require a set routine. We are looking for a SEND teaching assistant who not only has recent and relevant experience but who has good knowledge and understanding of what it takes to work with Special Needs pupils.
What you’ll need to succeed
It is imperative that the successful SEND teaching assistant is patient and caring and a qualification related to Special Educational Needs & Disabilities would be highly desirable, Graduates of Special Needs are also highly sought after. However we welcome applications from anyone with relevant experience supporting Children and Young People with additional needs, whether that be in an Education or Social Care setting.
All Special Needs Teaching Assistants will be subject to our stringent vetting procedures, and you must be able to provide references to support your application.
Minimum of 3 months experience of working with children and young people within the last 3 years
Ability to engage with pupils of varying ages and abilities
Experience of working on a one-to-one basis with pupils
Excellent behaviour management skills
A flexible, adaptable approach to work
