Your new role
As a litigation lawyer, you will report in to the General Counsel and provide legal advice and support across a diverse range of contentious matters. A significant focus of the role will be managing and supervising customer debt recovery litigation and enforcement activity while also supporting wider civil litigation work. Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supervising debt recovery litigation and enforcement matters.
- Providing practical, commercially focused legal advice on contentious and occasional non-contentious matters.
- Attending court where appropriate and working alongside external counsel.
- Instructing and managing external legal advisers.
- Supporting and leading civil litigation matters independently, depending on experience.
- Supervising and mentoring junior legal professionals.
- Conducting legal research and interpreting legal and regulatory developments.
- Supporting the development of collections and recovery strategies while balancing legal, regulatory and commercial considerations.
- Managing litigation matters from instruction through to completion, ensuring deadlines and stakeholder requirements are met.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified solicitor with approximately 3 years' PQE, although applications from more junior candidates with relevant experience will also be considered. Our client is also able to accept applications from CILEx qualified lawyers with practice rights to conduct litigation. You will also demonstrate:
- Experience gained within private practice or in-house legal team.
- Strong knowledge of civil litigation and debt recovery, including pre-action, litigation and enforcement processes.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and legal research skills.
- The ability to provide pragmatic, solution-focused legal advice.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy and varied workload.
- Confidence in communicating with and influencing both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues.
- An understanding of regulatory considerations relevant to litigation and collections activity.
