We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support a major transformation portfolio within a large public sector organisation. This role will suit a confident and self-sufficient BA who is able to work independently across a varied portfolio of change activities, engaging with senior stakeholders, services and project teams to gather requirements, analyse complex information and support the delivery of meaningful business improvement.

The successful candidate will play a key role in gathering and interpreting data, developing clear performance and benefits reporting, and producing Power BI dashboards that support effective decision-making across the organisation. You will work closely with operational services, project and programme leads, and senior stakeholders to define requirements, assess current processes, identify areas for improvement and present complex information in a clear and accessible way.

Key responsibilities

The Business Analyst will provide analytical and business change support across the transformation portfolio, working with services to understand current processes, capture and prioritise business requirements, and support the development of future operating models. You will use data gathering, analysis and interpretation to identify key issues, risks, benefits and opportunities for improvement, producing high-quality reports, dashboards, briefing materials and presentations to inform decision-making. The role will also involve working with stakeholders to map processes, facilitate workshops, assessing the impact of proposed changes and supporting the implementation of new ways of working. You will be expected to translate complex information into clear insights, helping services to understand performance, monitor benefits and make evidence-based decisions.

Essential experience and skills

  • Working independently as a Business Analyst across transformation, change or improvement programmes
  • Data gathering, analysis and interpretation
  • Developing Power BI dashboards and using data to support decision-making
  • Producing performance reports, benefits reports, briefing notes and presentations
  • Presenting complex information clearly to a range of audiences
  • Working with senior stakeholders, services and project teams to define and prioritise requirements
  • Capturing, analysing and documenting business processes to a high standard
  • Using business process mapping techniques to understand current ways of working and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Facilitating workshops, interviews or stakeholder sessions to gather requirements and test proposed solutions
  • Identifying risks, benefits, dependencies and business impacts linked to change activity
  • Working in a pressurised environment, managing competing priorities and delivering to deadlines
  • Building strong relationships with internal clients, stakeholders and service leads
  • Producing high-quality written documentation, reports and presentations
  • Using Microsoft Office packages effectively, with strong Excel and Power BI capability
  • Experience working within a public sector, local government or complex service-led environment
  • Knowledge of formal business analysis techniques, tools or methodologies
  • Experience supporting transformation portfolios or large-scale organisational change programmes
  • Exposure to benefits realisation, performance management or service improvement reporting
  • Understanding of data protection, information governance or public sector reporting requirements
