Various primary schools across the Wigan area are seeking to secure Teaching Assistants to start in January, across both SEN and mainstream schools. There has been a huge increase in demand for teaching assistants over the last few months, with the demand set to grow even more in this new year. There are now positions available day-to-day, short and long term across both KS1 and KS2, so there is something to meet everyone’s needs.

As a teaching assistant, you are responsible for providing support and assistance to the pupils, whether it be in a group or 1:1 setting, as well as supporting the class teacher across both KS1 and KS2 year groups. There is always the potential to move around to different year groups depending on the school's needs, so you will need to be flexible and adapt your skills to meet the needs of the children. This is particularly important when working in SEN schools as they work based on pupil ability rather than age. By being a teaching assistant, you should possess good behaviour management skills and build relationships with pupils as well as staff.

In order to be successful in securing this position, you must possess recent experience working with children within the last 2 years, for example in an education setting or as a support worker. As the schools are recruiting immediately, it would be ideal if you could jump straight into the role. However, do not let this put you off applying as we are always receiving new roles. SEN experience would also be desirable in this role, but it is not essential as it will depend on the school you are placed in.

In return, you will be paid a highly competitive daily rate and will be working in a successful school where you will be an integral part of a welcoming team of TAs. You will therefore have the opportunity to further develop your own teaching assistant skills and experience. A dedicated consultant will always be on hand should you have any questions or concerns.
