Job Description:

A busy Local Authority in the East Midlands has an interim vacancy in their Vehicle Maintenance department.

Job Title: Vehicle Technician
Location: Leicester
Rate: £ per hour
Contract Length: 3 months initially

Purpose of Job: To maintain the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment, including inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis, and repair.

Duties include:

  • Carrying out vehicle, plant, and equipment inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
  • Documenting work carried out, parts used, and time taken.
  • Interpreting information from drivers and users, advising on actions, and providing feedback.

Essential Qualifications:

  • MOT Tester Certificate
  • At least one of the following: Successful completion of a recognised industry apprenticeship (e.g., IMI approved) and/or Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicle or plant engineering (City & Guilds Part II, BTEC National, ONC/D, or similar)
  • Certificate in welding competence
  • Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient for the tasks
  • Full current driving licence
  • Ability to drive all vehicle and plant types up to 32T GVM (Class C LGV licence)
  • Knowledge of trade tools and safety application

About You:

  • Experience working in a large, diverse transport maintenance facility
  • Experience servicing vehicles, plant, and equipment, including fault diagnostics, repair, and maintenance
