Inspire Young Minds – Join Our Primary Teaching Team in Shropshire!

Your new school: We’re seeking enthusiastic and committed Primary Teachers to be part of our team, supporting our thriving community of primary, infant, junior, and nursery schools across Shropshire. At our schools, every day is an opportunity to spark curiosity, nurture potential, and celebrate success. You’ll work in supportive environments where innovation in teaching is encouraged, and professional development is a priority.

Your new role: Supply teachers ensure that children’s learning isn’t disrupted when permanent staff are unavailable. You play a vital role in keeping schools running smoothly and supporting pupils’ progress. As a supply teacher, you will step in to cover classes when the regular class teacher is absent due to illness, training, or other reasons. The main responsibilities in your role as a supply teacher include:

  • Delivering Lessons: Teach the planned curriculum or adapt existing lesson plans to ensure learning continues smoothly.
  • Effective Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and safe learning environment, managing behaviour effectively.
  • Adaptability: Quickly adjust to different schools, year groups, and teaching styles—sometimes with very little notice.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils in line with school policies.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Mark work and provide feedback where required.
  • Professionalism: Represent the school positively and uphold its values.

What you will need to succeed: We’re looking for primary teachers who have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Classroom experience – a minimum of 2 student placements (or 40 days of teaching within the last 2 years) within the primary/early years classroom.
  • Curriculum knowledge – Early Years, Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2 curriculum delivery.
  • Flexibility and resilience – every day can be different.
  • Strong and effective communication – with pupils, staff, and sometimes parents.
  • Classroom management expertise – to handle unfamiliar groups confidently.
  • Quick thinking and creativity – for adapting lessons or engaging pupils without much preparation time.

What you will get in return: Working for HAYS Education comes with a wide range of benefits, designed to support flexibility, wellbeing, and career growth, including:

  • Flexibility & work-life balance: Choose when and where you work, giving you control over your schedule.
  • Variety: Opportunities to teach across different schools and year groups.
  • Professional growth: Gain diverse classroom experience, which enhances adaptability and strengthens your CV.
  • Reduced Administrative Burden: Most lesson plans are provided, so you can focus on teaching, rather than paperwork (for daily & short-term supply).
  • Pathway to Permanent Roles: Supply teaching can lead to long-term or permanent positions if desired. Supply teaching is a great way to “test the waters” and find the right school for you.
  • Strong Support Network: Supported by a consultant with over 17 years experience of working with Primary Schools and Primary Teachers. Hays offers access to free training and career development resources.
  • Consistent Local Work Opportunities: Hays is one of the UK’s leading education recruitment agencies, meaning plenty of work is available. We work with a number of schools in the Shropshire area.
