Your new company is the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a General Building Operative for HMP Holme House. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the prison maintenance team across a range of tasks, including reactive repairs and damage restoration.
- Carry out basic joinery work as required.
- Perform minor plumbing tasks, such as unblocking toilets.
- Undertake simple electrical duties, including replacing light bulbs.
- Conduct routine fire alarm testing to ensure compliance and safety.
- Assist with waste management and disposal activities.
- Support ground maintenance tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Carry out general labouring duties as needed.
- Assist with tiling and other minor repair projects.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Experience of painting and tiling is desirable.
- You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required).
- You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address.
- You must have proof of National Insurance AND proof of address dated in the past 3 months.
- All applicants must be able to provide details of at least 2 satisfactory employment references.
What you’ll get in return:
- You will be paid weekly.
- You will receive all the relevant training for this role, and it is a temporary position with the possibility to go permanent (subject to performance).
