A general main contractor working across various different sectors seeks a Buyer to join the construction team. Works include both construction and refurbishment projects with around 10 projects on site currently, the largest being £8 million. With ambitious growth targets, recently refurbished offices and multiple new projects awarded in recent months, this is a newly created role to support the busy procurement team.
As a buyer, you will sit within the commercial team working closely with the surveying and construction teams. The main function will be to ensure the company obtains quality materials and equipment hire for competitive prices in a timely fashion. You will analyse the current processes and suppliers and ensure materials are being scheduled with the right lead-in times with the most competitive suppliers with the relevant approvals. You will also seek alternative products where applicable. You will be the sole buyer for the construction team and have autonomy to shape the role to suit.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- You will have previous experience as a buyer with a general main contractor.
- You will have a strong understanding of both new build and refurbishment schemes and be comfortable liaising with builders, merchants and suppliers.
- You will be fully literate and be comfortable managing your own workload and working independently (whilst sitting amongst the wider team).
