Your new role involves working on the largest highways project in the region, which includes a new 10-mile dual carriageway. We are looking for a Highways & Streetworks Inspector to join the project team. As a Works Inspector, you will be responsible for undertaking site inspections and reporting to the Senior Quality Works Inspector. You will provide assurance to both the management team and the client that the delivery team and the supply chain are delivering the work in accordance with the specification and design requirements.
The first line of defence will be through on-site coaching and training to help the Delivery Team understand the required standards. The second line will involve carrying out inspections of the works. The role will require working in a specific area of the project and providing support across multiple disciplines.
- Ensure that quality is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works to achieve right first time.
- Be proactive in preventing substandard work by coaching and providing training to the Delivery and supply chain.
- Ensure that all quality documentation is in place and pre-start checks have been carried out prior to the commencement of the work.
- Monitor the quality of materials via goods inwards inspections.
- Check the works during progress and completion to ensure they have been constructed in line with the specification and relevant design.
- Ensure that inspections and tests are carried out in line with the inspection and test plans and the Safe System of Work, and that all necessary documentation is produced in a timely manner.
- Where works do not comply with the requirements, ensure that Non-conformance Reports are produced, preventive action taken, and that they are closed in a timely manner.
- Support the Quality teams in carrying out site surveillances and the resolution of any quality-related issues.
- Support the collation and completion of project record packages, including the coordination of snagging and closing out DOWLS/Punchlist items on an ongoing basis.
- Raise and capture any Quality-focused lessons learned and communicate them to the Quality and Delivery Teams, including the Supply Chain.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
- Relevant site supervisory or site engineering experience on civil engineering projects, preferably major highway schemes, or Quality/Works Inspector experience from a previous civil engineering project.
- Highways experience and knowledge of highways specifications and standards.
- Experience of onsite inspections against an approved Detail Design and the generation of applicable assurance records.
- Relevant CSCS Card and Highways Passport.
