Sandwell Adult Social Care is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our newly established Moving and Handling Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team where the value of Occupational Therapy is increasingly recognised and embedded across services. Sandwell council is committed to promoting a ‘moving with dignity’ approach across health and social care partners in Sandwell. Their focus is on enabling independence and enhancing wellbeing for individuals living with long-term conditions at home. Often, care is delivered in ways that may not align with personal preferences due to moving and handling legislation. Sandwell's goal is to challenge this norm and support people to live meaningful lives with greater autonomy.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will:
- Assess and recommend specialist equipment and adaptations to meet complex needs.
- Apply up-to-date moving and handling techniques to reduce carer handling safely.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, caregivers, and professionals to promote independence.
We welcome applications from experienced Occupational Therapists with a passion for moving and handling. You will need:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- 2 years post-permanent experience.
- Proven experience in conducting proportionate assessments and recommending appropriate equipment/adaptations.
- Strong understanding of health and social care legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- A valid driving licence and the ability to travel across the Borough (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with disabilities).
