As Senior Buyer, you’ll be instrumental in shaping and executing sourcing strategies that deliver year‑on‑year savings. You’ll lead the category management process, driving cost reduction initiatives through alternate sourcing and process optimisation. A key part of your role will be building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You’ll also collaborate closely with production planning, inventory management, and logistics teams to optimise supply chain efficiency, while staying ahead of market trends and innovations to influence sourcing decisions that strengthen the company’s cost base. Working as part of a wider Procurement team, the Senior Buyer will strategically manage the given area of spend to drive savings whilst mitigating risk within the supply chain, as well as managing stakeholders both internally and externally.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Proven procurement background, ideally within gas or chemical sourcing (or another highly technical area)
- Experience of working within a complex and strategic manufacturing environment
- CIPS qualification (or working towards) is advantageous
- Proven experience in category management and supplier relationship management
- Understands the impact on commodity pricing when there are global challenges/events, and keeps abreast of market trends
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive savings and influence change
- Experience of sourcing from a small supplier base with limited alternatives
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Experience in contract drafting and negotiation is advantageous
