We are currently supporting a South West Local Authority seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to oversee a portfolio of electrical works across their housing stock. This is a fantastic opportunity for a contractor with strong public-sector or social housing experience who can confidently manage compliance, contractors and quality across a busy repair and planned works programme.

As the Electrical Engineer, you will act as the client’s technical lead for all electrical works within the housing portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day delivery of electrical maintenance, repairs and planned upgrades
  • Managing contractors delivering EICRs, rewires, upgrades, void property works and cyclical programmes
  • Ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, BS7671, and local authority standards
  • Carrying out on-site inspections, audits, quality checks and post-works sign-offs
  • Providing technical advice to internal teams, contractors and stakeholders
  • Monitoring performance, budgets, KPIs and ensuring value for money across all programmes
  • Assisting with contract administration, variations, specification writing and reports

Proven experience in an Electrical Engineer, Clerk of Works, or Electrical compliance role within a local authority, ALMO or social housing provider

Strong understanding of housing electrical standards, regulations and compliance requirements

Experience overseeing contractors and managing large-scale housing programmes

Ability to interpret electrical reports, technical drawings and compliance certificates

Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills

Relevant electrical qualifications (18th Edition, Testing & Inspection – 2391 or equivalent)

Rate: £250 – £300 per day (Umbrella)

Location: South West (hybrid working available)

Duration: Ongoing contract
