Our client is a Top 100 claimant firm based in the North West. They are currently recruiting for qualified solicitors/lawyers with 0–5 years PQE to join their Actions Against the Police team based in Liverpool. This role is open to claimant personal injury lawyers with Part 7 litigation and a demonstrable interest in civil liberties work.

This Actions Against the Police role will see you:

  • Manage your own caseload of claims against the police and public bodies, including: unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, human rights breaches, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and judicial reviews.
  • Handle a caseload of actions against the police from inception to conclusion.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and provide clear, practical advice to clients.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, including pleadings and witness statements.
  • Negotiate settlements and represent clients in court when necessary.
  • Work effectively in a target-driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve successful case outcomes.
  • Stay up to date with changes in relevant laws and regulations.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • You must be a qualified solicitor or chartered legal executive.
  • All applicants must have a strong litigation background with a minimum of 3 years experience handling your own caseload of Part 7 litigation work.
  • A strong understanding of the CPR and pre-action disclosure procedures is essential.
  • While experience in multi-track work is preferred, it is not mandatory.
  • You should be confident in running cases to trial alongside Counsel, able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, and capable of conducting your own legal research.
  • Proficiency in case management systems such as Proclaim and excellent IT skills are required.
  • Applications from solicitors/CILEXs with a minimum of two years’ civil litigation experience seeking to retrain are encouraged, and full training will be provided for these positions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Actions Against the Police or Personal Injury lawyers where you can expect a full and interesting caseload of civil liberties claims. Full training will be provided for those looking to retrain. A competitive salary of up to £45,000 and a regular bonus is available. This is a hybrid role where you can expect office attendance 50% of the time.
