Our client is an Environmental Consultancy based in Leeds and Manchester. They were established in 2007. They offer a range of specialist environmental services to public and private sector organisations across the UK. They are looking for someone to support them with their mission to improve sustainability in the UK, supporting various clients to develop their sustainability credentials and to minimise their impact on the environment.
Your new role
As a waste management consultant, your main responsibilities will be:
- Develop and implement waste procurement strategies aligned with environmental legislation and client objectives.
- Advise on best practices for waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery.
- Prepare and manage waste-related tenders, including drafting specifications and evaluating bids.
- Ensure all waste procurement activities comply with relevant UK and EU waste regulations and sustainability standards.
- Provide guidance on permitting, licensing, and environmental obligations.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients on waste management and procurement issues.
- Deliver technical reports, procurement plans, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental planners, engineers, and sustainability specialists.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in waste management.
What you'll need to succeed
- Membership of a relevant professional body (CIWM – Chartered Institution of Waste Management).
- Experience in public sector procurement or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in waste procurement or waste management consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of UK waste legislation and procurement frameworks.
- Expertise in waste procurement processes and contract management.
- Strong understanding of sustainability principles and circular economy practices.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High-level analytical and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
