As a supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades, including a Maintenance Handyperson for the Prison in Rugby, HMP Onley.
The rate is £ per hour inclusive of holiday pay.
Purpose of the Maintenance role: As part of the Works Department, you will be responsible for reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance. The prison currently has several refurbishment and day-to-day maintenance projects underway. The role involves general tasks such as assisting other trades, putting up signage, basic painting and carpentry duties, using drills and hand tools, and conducting fire alarm/emergency lighting checks. This position offers a unique working environment with a strong team ethos. There are opportunities for long-term contracts and potential to work in other prisons locally and nationally once trained. Candidates must be local or have their own transport.
Experience: Previous experience in a similar role is required, though prison experience is not necessary. The role requires candidates to be security conscious, reliable, consistent, level-headed, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison environment will be provided.
Security Clearance required: All applicants must undergo the HM Prison Service Security Clearance process, which can take up to 4 weeks and may include a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check. Candidates must hold a valid passport or birth certificate, a photo driving license with current address, and be able to provide two references, including at least one from a previous employer.
