Make a Difference as a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have experience working with pupils who require additional support to reach their full potential?

Hays Education is working in partnership with a number of welcoming primary schools across the South Somerset and Devon border area that are seeking dedicated SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistants to join their teams on a full-time basis. Opportunities are available from September 2026 and November 2026, providing consistency and the chance to make a lasting impact in a child's educational journey.

The Role

As a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised support to individual pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence and develop key social and emotional skills. You will work closely with class teachers, SENDCos and other professionals to deliver tailored support throughout the school day.

The role may involve supporting children with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Speech and Language Needs
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to support pupils both academically and emotionally
  • Experience within schools, care settings, youth work, nurseries or similar environments is highly desirable
