Hays Education is recruiting Cover Supervisors to work across a variety of secondary schools in Gloucestershire on a flexible temporary basis. As a Hays Cover Supervisor, you will work directly with a dedicated Hays recruitment consultant, supporting you to secure work that fits your availability, preferences and experience. While this role offers flexibility, many Cover Supervisors build strong relationships with students and staff at particular schools and are often requested regularly, allowing for continuity alongside flexible working.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain on task and engaged with the work set. You will manage classroom behaviour effectively and follow each school’s policies and procedures to maintain a positive learning environment. The role does not require planning or marking. You may work across a range of subjects and year groups, with opportunities to align placements to your strengths and interests where possible.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- You do NOT need QTS or a subject specialism to apply for this role.
- You must have experience working with young people, either in a school setting or in other environments such as social care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or charity work.
- Strong behaviour management is essential, alongside confidence, resilience and the ability to lead a classroom of secondary‑aged students.
- You will also need the right to work in the UK and must have an Enhanced DBS check, or be willing to obtain one, in line with safeguarding requirements.
