Hays Health & Safety are excited to be partnering exclusively with an established manufacturing organisation in the heart of Bury. They are seeking a HSE Co‑ordinator who will also play a key role in process improvement on site. This position sits within the management team and is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of hands‑on safety leadership and technical process support. The role will be integral, ensuring robust compliance, strong cultural standards and continual improvement across the site. Alongside this, the postholder will contribute secondarily to ongoing process and operational enhancements, supporting new product development and helping to optimise daily manufacturing performance whilst keeping the site compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the site’s HSE subject‑matter expert, providing guidance, support and practical solutions.
- Maintain and develop ISO‑aligned management systems across HSE and Environment.
- Conduct internal and external audits, ensuring compliance and readiness.
- Support the delivery of global or corporate health, safety, quality and environmental initiatives.
- Review and update H&S policies, procedures and risk controls.
- Produce, analyse and present HSE performance reports alongside the Plant Manager.
- Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and practical interventions.
- Deliver fire safety oversight, emergency response processes and on‑site training.
- Create and deliver HSE training sessions, toolbox talks and communication materials.
- Provide daily technical instruction to production teams.
- Work with R&D to support new product development, defining key process metrics and ensuring manufacturability.
- Support the implementation of new or critical processes by creating procedures, taking measurements, observing performance and documenting findings.
- Contribute to the work of the Process Improvement Team, focusing on product quality, repeatability and operational efficiency.
Person Specification
- NEBOSH qualification
- Solid understanding of UK Health, Safety & Environmental legislation.
- Auditor training or experience supporting the maintenance of ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Standards.
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and confidence producing reports and presentations.
- Experience delivering training or toolbox talks.
- Experience in a similar manufacturing‑based HSE role.
