An established and highly successful multi-disciplinary building services contractor is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Banbridge. The business is recognised for its innovative, forward-thinking approach and has experienced consistent growth across sectors including residential, hospitality, education, commercial, and healthcare. With multiple offices across the UK and Ireland, this is an excellent opportunity to join a company delivering high-profile projects using modern, progressive methods of construction.
Working primarily within a design-and-build environment, you will take projects from Stage 3 concept through to final delivery (Stage 7). A key element of this role involves working closely with an in-house offsite/prefabrication team. This gives you the unique opportunity to take early-stage design concepts and evolve them into fully coordinated, fabrication-ready solutions. Unlike traditional consultancy environments, this position allows you to focus on a smaller number of high-value projects, giving you full ownership and visibility from initial appointment through design development, prefabrication and on-site installation of modular plantrooms and skids.
- Review and interpret employer’s requirements and tender documentation
- Produce schematics, calculations, technical specifications, and plant schedules
- Provide accurate technical direction to Revit/BIM teams for drawing production
- Take full ownership of allocated projects and work autonomously where needed
- Produce fabrication detail drawings for offsite manufacture
- Coordinate services within plant areas with emphasis on buildability and multidisciplinary interfaces
- Support material selection, weld standards and specification compliance
- Mentor and support junior engineers and BIM/Offsite team members
- Carry out site surveys and review installations (short visits)
What you’ll need to succeed
- Essential: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or time-served pipefitting background
- Intermediate Engineer: 3–5 years’ consultancy or relevant site-based experience OR Senior Engineer: 5+ years’ consultancy or relevant site-based experience.
- Highly organised with a structured approach to work
- Strong IT skills with confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Analytical thinker with good communication and reporting ability
- Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset
Desirable:
- Experience within the commercial M&E sector
- Exposure to offsite manufacturing design, modular concepts or prefabricated components
What you’ll get in return
You’ll join a supportive, forward-thinking engineering team where your ideas are valued, and your development is prioritised. Expect genuine career progression, exposure to high-profile projects, and the unique opportunity to see your designs taken from concept through to offsite fabrication and installation. With strong leadership, a collaborative culture, and the stability of a well-established contractor, this is a role that offers long-term security, professional growth, and real impact.
