We are partnering with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation to recruit a talented Electronic Engineer to join their growing Design Engineering team.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Product Design and Development, you will play a key role in the analysis, design, development, and continuous improvement of innovative electronic products. This is an exciting opportunity to work with new and emerging technologies, contributing directly to the organisation's growth and product evolution. Working alongside Principal and Senior Engineers, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering outputs, including:
- Schematics and PCB designs
- Simulations and technical calculations
- Technical specifications and engineering drawings
- Bills of materials and user documentation
You will support engineering change and approval processes while ensuring robust and compliant designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the full product life cycle across an existing product portfolio
- Manage design updates, component obsolescence, cost optimisation, and reliability improvements
- Support project delivery through planning, scheduling, and risk management
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and product teams
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Test (DfM / DfT) principles to enhance product quality and build efficiency
- Provide hands-on technical support to resolve production issues
- Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely sourcing of components
- Liaise with external vendors and suppliers to support prototyping and production
Technical Expertise
You will bring a strong mid-to-senior level skillset, including:
- Analogue and digital circuit design
- PCB layout, design review, and best practices
- Power electronics and embedded systems
- Component selection and regulatory compliance (EMC, safety standards)
- CAD and simulation tools
- Design verification, validation, and failure analysis
- Life cycle documentation and configuration control
Essential Criteria
- Degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong experience in analogue and digital electronic design
- Solid understanding of embedded software (PIC and C)
- Experience with engineering design tools (AutoCAD, CADSTAR, eCADSTAR)
- Knowledge of full product design life cycle (concept through to manufacture)
- Experience with design revision control and file management systems
- Experience managing component obsolescence
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to engage with customers and translate technical requirements
- Customer-focused mindset with a passion for innovation
- Strong team collaboration skills
- Good IT literacy
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to rail industry standards
- Knowledge of SMD LED technology and optical design
- Understanding of product safety standards (EN 50128, EN 50129)
- Project management experience
