We are looking for Operations Technicians for this busy port who handle a wide range of cargo and vessels, including cruise ships. During the busy season from April to October, the port can receive over 400 ships. The operations technicians maintain air bridges, rail barriers and maintain the facilities across the site.
The Operations Technicians support the safe, efficient and reliable running of port infrastructure, plant and equipment. Working as part of a multiskilled team, you will perform operational duties, planned and reactive maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards across the port estate. Working on a shift pattern of early and late shifts on a 21-day rotation.
- Operate, monitor and maintain port equipment including cranes, air bridges, gangways, conveyors, hydraulic systems and mechanical handling equipment.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs to minimise downtime and maintain operational readiness.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of general facilities, including lighting systems, taps, toilets, rail barriers, access equipment and other port infrastructure.
- Support vessel operations, including berth preparation, mooring assistance, equipment checks and ensuring safe access for passengers and crew.
- Assist with fault-finding and troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical and control systems, escalating complex issues where required.
- Perform safety checks and operational testing of air bridges, gangways and lifting equipment, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
We are looking for experience in heavy-engineering, industrial, utilities or marine/port facilities. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, including maintenance and fault diagnosis. Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals and maintenance documentation. Knowledge of safe systems of work and relevant legislation. Competent IT skills for logging work and completing reports.
Salary and standby allowance £42k plus regular overtime (x 1.5), 33 days holiday increasing with service and holiday purchase scheme, enhanced salary up to 10% employer contributions, medical and dental health cover and discount schemes.
