A major construction contractor headquartered in West Yorkshire is seeking a Commercial Director to lead their commercial operations across a diverse portfolio of projects. The Role

As Commercial Director, you will be responsible for shaping and overseeing all commercial functions within the business. Working as part of the senior leadership team, you will ensure the effective management of budgets, risk, forecasting, procurement, and contractual compliance across multiple operational divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic commercial leadership across a large, multi-disciplinary construction business
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team including Commercial Managers and QS staff
  • Oversee financial performance, project forecasting, CVRs, risk management, and commercial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations (JCT/NEC) and company governance structures
  • Lead high-level negotiations with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
  • Oversee procurement strategy and ensure robust cost control across all projects
  • Work closely with the Board, Operations, and Pre-Construction on bids, tenders, and business planning
  • Drive continuous improvement across commercial processes, systems, and reporting
  • Influence business strategy, margin improvement, and long-term commercial stability
  • Represent the business at senior client meetings and industry forums

About You

  • Extensive senior commercial experience within the construction industry (Commercial Manager, Senior QS, or existing Commercial Director level)
  • Strong understanding of commercial management across a variety of construction projects
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing commercial teams
  • Deep contractual knowledge, particularly JCT and NEC
  • Highly analytical, financially astute, and confident in board-level decision-making
  • Strong communicator able to build relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders
  • Forward-thinking leader able to drive change, performance, and commercial discipline
