Your new company Birmingham City Council is the UK\’s largest local authority, delivering essential services to residents across the city. As part of our commitment to supporting those in housing need, we are recruiting Housing Needs Officers to join their team based at Lydia Rogers House. Your new role As a Housing Needs Officer, you will be at the front line of housing support, helping individuals and families navigate housing challenges and access appropriate services.Key responsibilities include: Conducting housing needs assessments Supporting applicants through the housing application process, and assisting with housing benefits Liaising with internal teams and external agencies to secure suitable housing solutions Maintaining accurate case records using council systemsThis is a full-time role (35 hours per week), delivered through shift work. Shifts are provided six weeks in advance, with occasional weekend availability required. Earliest shift: 8am-4pm Latest shift: 1pm-9pmThe role is offered on a 3-month ongoing contract, with likely extensions based on performance and service needs. What you\’ll need to succeed To succeed in this role, you\’ll need a solid understanding of housing legislation and homelessness prevention, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively support service users. The ability to manage a caseload and work under pressure is essential, as is a proactive and empathetic approach to problem-solving. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position, in which Hays will help with the application.
