Civils Manager | Oxfordshire (3 days a fortnight, the rest remote)Salary Package + Bonus + 28% pension For decades, fusion energy has been regarded as one of engineering's greatest challenges. Now, one of the UK's most ambitious national programmes is bringing together some of the world's leading engineers, scientists and technical specialists to help make commercial fusion energy a reality. We're supporting the search for an exceptional Civil Manager (Civil Structural Engineer background) to help shape the civil engineering strategy for a first-of-a-kind energy facility unlike anything previously delivered anywhere in the world. This is not a replacement asset. This is not an expansion project. This is not an optimisation exercise. This is an opportunity to influence the design, integration and delivery strategy of a globally significant piece of infrastructure from the earliest stages of development. The Opportunity Reporting into the programme's senior engineering leadership team, you'll become the civil engineering authority for a project with an anticipated capital value measured in the billions. You'll define the vision for facilities, infrastructure, heavy civil engineering and supporting assets required to support a revolutionary new technology. Working at the intersection of advanced science, major infrastructure and systems engineering, you'll help answer questions that many projects never need to ask. How should a facility be designed when no precedent exists? How do you create the civil engineering framework for technology that has never operated at commercial scale? How do you balance innovation, safety, constructibility and long-term operability on a programme expected to influence an entire future industry? These are the challenges you'll be solving. Why This Role Is Different Most senior engineers spend their careers delivering infrastructure that improves the world. Very few have the opportunity to help create a completely new category of infrastructure. Joining at this stage means influencing fundamental decisions that will shape the programme for decades to come. You'll work alongside leading experts from multiple disciplines, helping define technical direction, design vision, integration strategy and delivery readiness from day one. The decisions made here won't just impact a single project. They could help shape the future of clean energy globally. We're Interested In Speaking To This role is likely to suit a Chartered Civil Structural Engineer (ideally FICE) who has built a career leading major infrastructure programmes within highly regulated or high-hazard environments (nuclear, defence, etc). You'll bring: 20+ years' experience within major infrastructure, nuclear and/or defence environments A civil/structural engineering background Experience acting as a client, technical authority or design authority Expertise managing complex interfaces, technical risk and multi-disciplinary integration The credibility to influence senior stakeholders across large-scale engineering programmes Most importantly, you'll be excited by the prospect of helping shape something that has never been done before. Leaving a mark on an industry, not just a project. What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
