We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support our finance function. This role involves a variety of bookkeeping and administrative tasks, including invoicing, bank reconciliations, credit control, purchase ledger management, and general finance support. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient day-to-day operations of the accounts department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and process invoices, receipts, and payments.
  • Manage the purchase ledger, including entering supplier invoices and reconciling statements.
  • Conduct credit control duties, including monitoring aged debt and following up with customers to ensure timely payments.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and VAT returns.
  • Process and reconcile employee expenses and company credit cards.
  • Liaise with suppliers and customers to resolve account queries.
  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures, internal controls, and relevant regulations.
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a finance or accounting role (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience with credit control and purchase ledger processes.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Desirable Attributes

  • AAT qualification or currently studying towards one (or a similar finance qualification).
  • Experience working in a small business or SME environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working in a dynamic setting.
