We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support our finance function. This role involves a variety of bookkeeping and administrative tasks, including invoicing, bank reconciliations, credit control, purchase ledger management, and general finance support. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient day-to-day operations of the accounts department.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and process invoices, receipts, and payments.
- Manage the purchase ledger, including entering supplier invoices and reconciling statements.
- Conduct credit control duties, including monitoring aged debt and following up with customers to ensure timely payments.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and VAT returns.
- Process and reconcile employee expenses and company credit cards.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers to resolve account queries.
- Ensure compliance with financial procedures, internal controls, and relevant regulations.
- Provide general administrative support to the finance team as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in a finance or accounting role (preferred but not essential).
- Experience with credit control and purchase ledger processes.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel).
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Desirable Attributes
- AAT qualification or currently studying towards one (or a similar finance qualification).
- Experience working in a small business or SME environment.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working in a dynamic setting.
