Your new company Hays are partnering with a well-established, highly reputable organisation experiencing strong growth and continued commercial success. They are now seeking an individual experienced in credit management or risk who will play a key role in shaping the credit function and driving best practice across the team.

Your new role You will take full ownership of the end-to-end Credit Control function, acting as the go-to specialist for all credit-related decisions. This is a hands-on, influential role where you will oversee one team member while working closely with senior stakeholders to protect cashflow and minimise risk.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support and management of the credit control function
  • Review aged debt and chase customers as required
  • Effective translation of credit reports to include communicating updates to key internal stakeholders
  • Evaluation and review of our current customer portfolio and any prospective customers
  • Review of credit policies and departmental processes with updates being effectively communicated to relevant departments
  • Monitor doubtful debts and liaise with sales managers and customer support in order to resolve queries and expedite cash collection
  • Provide AR & doubtful debts reporting for inclusion in financial reporting package
  • Management and review of customer accounts to include breached credit limits, lapsed trade, customer detail changes & credit report changes
  • Escalation of overdue debts to legal counsel
  • Register, review and control of customers that have entered administration
  • Communicate with external stakeholders and expedite query resolution
  • Decision making and management of risk vs reward for prospective and active customers
  • Management of relationships with credit reporting agencies and solicitors
  • Review of customer and supplier contracts, feedback to relevant departments as required
  • Monthly upload of AR balances to D&B online to allow improved payment behaviour functionality
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all internal and external stakeholders, to include customers, senior management and our sales team
  • Assistance and ad hoc support for the wider finance team, as needed
  • Participate and assist with any credit management audit requirements, as necessary
  • Look for efficiencies and improvements within the role to allow for personal, departmental and business growth

What you'll need to succeed You will be experienced in Risk or Credit Management with a proven track record of managing complex accounts and confidently influencing commercial teams. You'll bring:

  • Strong experience working closely with Sales and the confidence to stand your ground when making credit decisions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • The gravitas to enforce credit policies, challenge decisions when necessary, and protect the business from unnecessary risk
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to work autonomously
