Your new company is a respected public‑sector organisation in Birmingham City Centre seeking a proactive Assistant Accountant to join their finance function on a permanent basis. The role is hybrid working (in the office 1 day a week in Birmingham city centre) and pays £35,000-£37,000. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a collaborative, supportive team where you will play a key role across accounts payable, sales ledger, credit control, procurement support, and month‑end processes.
Your new role as an Assistant Accountant will involve supporting the delivery of accurate, efficient and compliant financial services across the organisation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing sales ledger processes, including daily invoicing and credit control
- Processing purchase ledger invoices, purchase orders and payment runs
- Supporting procurement and contract administration, including maintaining registers
- Preparing supplier reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and other month‑end tasks
- Handling complex queries and providing excellent stakeholder communication
- Using finance systems such as Sage (experience across various versions welcome)
This is a great role for someone who enjoys a mix of transactional finance and wider commercial exposure.
What you will need to succeed:
- Experience in sales ledger, credit control and purchase ledger
- Strong communication skills - able to explain financial information clearly
- Confident managing your workload and working with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of procurement or contracts management is desirable but not essential
- Experience using accounting software (Sage products beneficial)
- A team player with a proactive, can‑do attitude
