Your new company

A highly specialist and growing tax advisory firm focused exclusively on tax disputes and investigations is seeking to expand its team. Due to increasing demand and a strong pipeline of work, the firm is currently turning away engagements and is keen to appoint an additional consultant to support across a broad range of complex cases. The business operates in a niche space, working closely with legal professionals and barristers on high-profile and technically challenging matters.

Your new role

You will work as part of a specialist disputes and investigations team, supporting a variety of contentious tax matters. This is a varied role offering exposure to complex, high-stakes work early in your career.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting on HMRC enquiries and investigations, including COP9 and fraud-related cases
  • Undertaking detailed fact-finding and technical research
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and case files for barristers
  • Assisting with tribunal cases and dispute resolution processes
  • Collaborating with legal teams and external stakeholders on case preparation

The role offers a high degree of autonomy, with flexible and largely remote working. Travel to London will be required when cases demand.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A background in practice tax (typically 2-5 years' experience)
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to produce clear and detailed reports
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach to work
  • An interest in disputes, investigations, and contentious tax matters
  • Prior investigations experience is not essential, but a genuine interest in this area is key.

What you'll get in return

  • Exposure to high-quality, complex disputes work early in your career
  • Flexible working environment with remote options
  • A varied workload with peaks and troughs - busier periods balanced by quieter times (e.g. reduced hours during court recess periods)
  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists in a niche and growing field

This role may not suit everyone due to its fluctuating workload and specialist nature, but it offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in tax investigations and disputes.
