We are working with a well-established public sector organisation seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their payroll team on a permanent basis.

Your new role

• knowledge and experience of end-to-end payroll accurately and efficiently on a monthly basis.
• Ensure payroll calculations are compliant with current payroll legislation and organisational policies.
• Administer pension schemes, including employee enrolments, contributions, opt-outs, and reporting activities.
• Process starters, leavers, salary changes, contractual variations, and statutory payments.
• Reconcile payroll reports and investigate payroll queries and discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate employee and payroll records within the HR and payroll systems.
• Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure payroll accuracy.
• Support internal and external audits by providing payroll data and documentation.
• Assist with year-end payroll activities, pension submissions, and statutory reporting.
• Contribute to payroll projects, process improvements, and system enhancements.

What you'll need to succeed

• Experience working within the public sector or a highly regulated environment.
• Knowledge of Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS), Teacher Pension Scheme (TPS), NHS Pension Scheme, or other public sector pension arrangements.
• Previous involvement in payroll implementation, systems upgrades, or process improvement initiatives.
• CIPP qualification or working towards a payroll-related qualification.
