About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst (Finance) to support a local council's education finance team, with a specific focus on Schools Finance and the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG). This role will play a key part in analysing, reviewing, and supporting schools that currently have a DSG deficit, providing insight, challenge, and recommendations to help address financial pressures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse school financial data, with a particular focus on DSG allocations, spending, and deficit positions.
  • Support forecasting and modelling to understand future financial risks and pressures within the DSG.
  • Produce clear, data-driven reports and insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Work closely with schools, finance colleagues, and education leads to review budgets and recovery plans.
  • Contribute to strategic discussions about long-term DSG sustainability and deficit reduction.
  • Support process improvements and strengthen financial controls across the schools finance function.

About You

  • Proven experience in Schools Finance within a local authority or education setting.
  • Strong understanding of the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG), including its blocks, funding methodology, and deficit recovery approaches.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present findings clearly.
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including school leaders.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, public sector environment.
