Hays Accountancy & Finance are recruiting for a Part-Time Assistant Accountant to join an established finance team on a temporary to permanent basis. This is a varied role offering a mix of transactional finance and month-end accounting responsibilities. Working as part of a job-share arrangement, you'll play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the finance function.

Hours: 22 hours per week. The preferred working pattern is Wednesday, Thursday and either Monday or Friday. However, alternative part-time working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cashbook processing and bank reconciliations
  • Preparing and posting journals
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Costing and allocating invoices across departments
  • Assisting with month-end processes
  • Providing holiday cover for payroll
  • Investigating discrepancies and resolving account queries
  • Supporting the finance team with ad hoc accounting and administrative duties

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
  • Strong understanding of high-volume transactional finance processes
  • Experience preparing journals and performing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Confident reviewing balances, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies
  • Able to look beyond data entry and understand the impact of transactions across the accounts
  • Good Excel skills, including the ability to work with existing formulas, identify errors and review calculations
  • Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload
