The predicted salary is between 25000 - 30000 £ per year.

We are looking for an experienced groundkeeper who is also able to help with general maintenance to join our Facilities Team at Haynes Motor Museum for an immediate start until the end of October 2026. There is a possibility that this could become a permanent role for the right person.

As part of a busy visitor attraction welcoming over 125,000 visitors each year, first impressions are extremely important. This role is responsible for maintaining our 16-acre site to a high standard, ensuring the Museum grounds remain safe, clean, and welcoming for visitors, staff, volunteers and event guests throughout the year.

Alongside groundskeeping duties, the successful candidate will support general site maintenance and assist with event setup across the Museum estate. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys working outdoors, and can work both independently and as part of a team.

Reporting to the Facilities & Estate Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the Museum and its commercial activities.

About You

We are seeking a grounds person who will take care of the 16-acre site who is also able to help with general site maintenance during the winter months and during inclement weather. We are looking for a team member who will be hard working, is able to work independently, and has great attention to detail. You will take pride in your work and as part of a high performing team your efforts will make a real difference to our visitors’ enjoyment of their visit to the Museum.

The Museum and associated businesses are open 7 days a week, 362 days a year. The café serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, and the Venue Hire business delivers daytime and evening events and functions both during the week and at weekends.

This is a fast-paced environment and we are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can set exemplary standards which will complement the very high standards of service and product we currently deliver across all areas of the Museum.

Job Description Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry out general grounds maintenance
  • Strimming, grass cutting and hedge trimming
  • Weeding and keeping the beds tidy
  • Astroturf maintenance
  • Ensuring the car park and grounds are safe, clean and inviting at all times
  • Work with other departments to ensure the grounds are well-maintained for events or activities
  • Distribution of event road signs and event publicity
  • Basic maintenance tasks to include: plumbing, carpentry, painting and ground repairs
  • To report any maintenance issues to the line manager immediately
  • Opening and closing of the Museum
  • Setting up and packing down site for events, car shows etc.
  • Occasionally assist with setup and breakdown for conferences, exhibitions and Museum events
  • Assisting with traffic control and car parking for events
  • Ensure that all rubbish bins are emptied and rubbish is disposed of or recycled correctly in the appropriate bins
  • Report maintenance or health & safety concerns promptly
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all Museum departments
  • Strong knowledge of groundskeeping techniques and practices
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labour in various weather conditions
  • Enthusiastic attitude with attention to detail and a sense of pride and ownership
  • Always presentable with a polite and helpful manner
  • Able to work independently but also take direction from others
  • Work as part of a team to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction is always met
  • Must hold a full driving license due to location and role requirements
  • Must be organised and able to prioritise tasks required

Hours, Structure and Pay

Location: Sparkford, Somerset BA22 7LH, just minutes off the A303, the main trunk road to the South West

Contract Type: Fixed Term until the end of October 2026

40 hours per week working 5 days out of 7 days a week – additional hours required during busy periods and to cover holiday. Some weekend and evening availability will be needed on a rota basis.
