The Council is seeking an Assistant Planning Policy Manager to cover maternity leave. The post is temporary for a 12 month period, full time, 37 hours per week.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed planning professional, with the experience, skills, and knowledge to quickly integrate into a busy Planning Policy team. You will hold a town planning or equivalent qualification and be eligible for Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

We are based in the modern Riverside House offices in the heart of Rotherham, well located for public transport from South Yorkshire and commuting via the M1 and M18 motorways. Our hybrid working arrangements make working as easy in the home as at the office, so there is some flexibility about where and when you work, and we offer a range of other employee benefits.

You will support the Planning Policy Manager, delivering a varied workload including:

  • Leading on the preparation, adoption and review of the Local Plan and supplementary planning documents.
  • Implementing the Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy to help deliver infrastructure to support growth.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date evidence base to support the Local Plan, commissioning and managing external providers when needed.
  • Conserving and improving the Borough’s heritage through the Council’s heritage at risk strategy, local heritage list and conservation area reviews.
  • Supporting parish councils with developing neighbourhood plans and taking these through the legal process to adoption.
  • Giving professional advice on behalf of the Council and meeting the planning policy needs of the Planning Service.
  • Working with our neighbouring councils to ensure policy co-ordination at regional and sub regional level.

Experience of the Community Infrastructure Levy and infrastructure planning would be an advantage but is not essential. Some experience of managing staff would also be an advantage.

This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
