Working within Automotive Studio at Haymarket, we’re home to some of the biggest and most loved consumer motoring brands in the UK, including What Car?, Autocar, and Classic & Sports Car. Our trusted, remarkable content reaches millions of people a month across digital, print, video, podcasts, apps and live events. We are also home to Automotive Studio, a specialist creative agency crafting award-winning content, digital media, and marketing campaigns for the leading automotive brands. This role sits within Automotive Studio and focuses on creating and coordinating engaging social media content for MG Motor UK.

The Role

The Social Media Content Creator will develop engaging, social-first content for MG Motor UK across a range of digital and social media platforms. Combining creative thinking, copywriting, content planning, production and performance analysis, the role will create content that reflects the MG Motor UK brand, resonates with automotive audiences and supports agreed client objectives. Working closely with the Videographer, Project Manager and wider creative team, the Social Media Content Creator will help shape the content calendar, coordinate delivery and use audience insight to continuously improve content performance.

Responsibilities

  • Content strategy and ideation
    • Develop original social media content ideas aligned with MG Motor UK’s brand objectives, tone of voice and automotive themes.
    • Work collaboratively with the Videographer, Project Manager and wider creative team to turn ideas and client briefs into engaging social-first content.
    • Build and maintain forward-looking content calendars and schedules, ensuring a consistent and varied flow of content.
    • Consider the wider content strategy when planning individual posts, campaigns and ongoing content streams.
    • Respond appropriately to emerging social media trends, automotive news, product launches and audience interests.
    • Support the development of an engaged online community, applying appropriate customer service principles when creating or coordinating responses.
  • Social media copywriting
    • Write clear, compelling and platform-appropriate copy for social media content, including captions, descriptions and video text.
    • Adapt copy to reflect MG Motor UK’s agreed tone of voice and the requirements of each social media platform.
    • Review copy for accuracy, clarity, consistency and compliance before publication.
    • Work with creative and client stakeholders to incorporate feedback and secure the necessary approvals.
  • Content creation and production
    • Create engaging visual and short-form video content for MG Motor UK’s social media channels.
    • Operate a DSLR or similar camera system to capture high-quality visual content where required.
    • Support content shoots and work professionally with clients, talent and production colleagues on set.
    • Ensure content is appropriately formatted and optimised for platforms including YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
    • Maintain high standards of quality and brand consistency across all content.
  • Project and content coordination
    • Act as a central point of coordination for MG Motor UK’s social media content, working with the Videographer, Project Manager, freelance editors, creators and other contributors.
    • Maintain clear visibility of content status, deadlines, feedback and approvals.
    • Coordinate multiple content streams and competing priorities to support timely delivery.
    • Use social media management and scheduling platforms, including Brandwatch, to organise, schedule and monitor content.
    • Maintain accurate content records and ensure final assets are stored and accessible.
  • Performance analysis and optimisation
    • Monitor social media content performance using relevant platform and management tools.
    • Review measures such as audience retention, engagement, click-through rates and video completion rates to understand content effectiveness.
    • Use performance data and audience insight to inform future content ideas, formats and publishing approaches.
    • Share clear performance observations and recommendations with internal and client stakeholders.

Key Relationships

The Social Media Content Creator will report to and work closely with the Social Media and Production Manager. The role will collaborate regularly with the Videographer, Project Manager and colleagues across Automotive Studio’s creative, production and social media teams to plan, create and deliver content for MG Motor UK. The Social Media Content Creator will also build effective working relationships with MG Motor UK stakeholders, freelance editors, external creators, on-screen talent and other production partners. Clear communication and professional conduct will be particularly important when working with clients and contributors during live shoots.

  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge of social media content creation, management and optimisation across platforms including YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
    • Understanding of current social media best practice, emerging formats and short-form video.
    • Knowledge of social media content planning, scheduling and publishing processes.
    • Understanding of how to build audience engagement and an online brand community.
    • Knowledge of content management systems, digital marketing channels and social media scheduling tools, including Brandwatch.
    • Understanding of social media analytics and the measures used to assess content performance.
    • Knowledge of the automotive industry, including new car audiences, automotive news, product launches and developments in electric and hybrid vehicles.
    • Awareness of copyright, intellectual property, advertising requirements and other relevant digital media standards.
