The Deputy News Editor plays a key role in delivering Campaign's daily news agenda, supporting the News Editor to produce timely, accurate and engaging journalism across digital and print platforms. The role is responsible for identifying and breaking exclusive stories, producing high-quality news, features and analysis, and ensuring editorial content meets the highest standards of accuracy, relevance and journalistic integrity. Working collaboratively across the editorial team, the Deputy News Editor helps plan and coordinate news coverage, supports audience engagement through data-informed content decisions, and represents the Campaign brand through industry events and external engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the News Editor in planning, commissioning, editing and delivering high-quality news content across digital and print platforms.
  • Identify, investigate and break exclusive news stories, producing insightful features and analysis that engage Campaign's specialist audience.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry contacts to support news gathering and identify emerging trends.
  • Manage the day‑to‑day news agenda, ensuring accurate, timely and relevant coverage while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Deputise for the News Editor when required, leading editorial planning meetings, managing workflow and overseeing news output.
  • Commission and edit content from internal and freelance contributors, ensuring all copy is accurate, balanced, legally compliant and aligned with Campaign's editorial standards.
  • Monitor audience engagement and content performance, using data and analytics to inform editorial planning and improve audience reach.
  • Collaborate with production, design and audience engagement teams to optimise the presentation and performance of editorial content across multiple platforms.
  • Represent Campaign at industry events, conferences and external engagements, producing live coverage, building relationships and enhancing the brand's reputation.
  • Monitor industry developments, competitor activity and digital channels to identify news opportunities.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of editorial processes, content formats and digital storytelling to support audience growth and engagement.
  • Ensure all editorial activity complies with legal, ethical and professional journalistic standards.

  • Works closely with the News Editor, Editor, editorial colleagues, production, audience engagement, commercial and events teams to deliver high-quality journalism and support business objectives.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with industry leaders, agencies, brands, media owners and other key stakeholders across the advertising, marketing and media sectors.

  • Strong understanding of news journalism, editorial processes and digital publishing.
  • Knowledge of media law, editorial standards and journalistic ethics.
