We are looking for a Ship Operator to join Greenheart Management in London. Greenheart is Hayfin's dedicated in-house ship-management team, providing commercial, operational, and technical oversight across one of the world's largest institutional maritime portfolios. This is a hands-on operational role at the heart of our fleet management activities, supporting the commercial and operational management of vessels operating under time charter. You will work closely with Masters, charterers, agents, and internal teams: monitoring vessel performance, administering charter party obligations, and ensuring the flow of operational and financial information across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a shipping professional to develop within a growing, high-quality maritime platform. We are based in central London, with three days a week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Coordination
- Take day-to-day responsibility for monitoring vessel performance and operations across the fleet under time charter.
- Partner with Masters, charterers, agents, and internal departments to keep operations running smoothly.
- Keep a close eye on vessel positions, schedules, and cargo operations.
- Own compliance with charter party obligations across your vessels.
- Charter Party Administration
- Develop a strong working knowledge of time charter terms and their practical application across the fleet.
- Stay across hire payments, off-hire events, and performance claims, flagging issues promptly.
- Play an active role in resolving disputes, including speed/consumption claims and delays.
- Ensure revenue items are reported to accounting accurately and on time.
- Voyage & Performance Monitoring
- Analyse noon reports and voyage data - including speed, fuel consumption, and weather routing - to build a clear picture of fleet performance.
- Identify and elevate discrepancies against charter party warranties.
- Contribute to performance analysis and reporting that informs commercial decision-making.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Keep thorough operational records and voyage logs.
- Prepare clear internal reports on vessel performance and operations.
- Support post-voyage analysis to drive continuous improvement.
Experience & Education
- 3+ years' experience in shipping operations or the maritime industry.
- A degree in a related field (e.g. Maritime Studies, Shipping, or Logistics) is welcomed but not a necessity.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of shipping terminology and charter parties, with a focus on time charters.
- Effective communication and coordination skills across internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools; experience of Veson IMOS is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple vessels and tasks simultaneously under pressure.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of the cost implications of operational decisions.
- Team-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a willingness to develop.
