Haydon is a large, friendly and creative school in North West London. We have been judged as good by OFSTED. We are looking for a passionate Design & Technology Technician (Food Tech, Textiles, Art, Photography) to join our friendly Operations Team. We are an energetic and passionate department that is dedicated to cultivating a love of collaborative and inclusive working environment.

To work closely with, and under the guidance of the Faculty and Subject Leaders to foster high levels of success for all students taking part in Design and Technology courses across Food Technology, Textiles, Art, Photography.

The Role:

  • Prepare, set up and clear away materials, equipment and resources for lessons, practical sessions, coursework and examinations.
  • Support teachers during practical lessons where required.
  • Assist with preparation for GCSE and A-level coursework, including mounting, firing, finishing and presentation of work.
  • Maintain specialist rooms (art studios, food rooms, textile rooms) in a safe, tidy and organised condition.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH, food hygiene, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain records relating to chemicals, tools, food safety and equipment checks.
  • Ensure correct storage and safe use of materials, tools and equipment.
  • Support food hygiene standards and cleaning procedures in food technology areas.
  • Order, receive and manage stock, including art materials, fabrics, food supplies and cleaning materials.
  • Monitor budgets and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Maintain accurate stock inventories and carry out regular audits.
  • Prepare materials in advance (e.g. cutting fabric, preparing clay, weighing food ingredients).
  • Maintain, clean and safely store tools and equipment (including sewing machines, ovens, kilns, presses, etc.).
  • Report faults and arrange repairs or servicing as required.
  • Assist with room displays, exhibitions, and open evenings.
  • Provide guidance to students on safe use of equipment and materials.
  • Support inclusive learning by assisting students with additional needs during practical activities.
  • Work in and around the classroom in support of teaching and learning.
  • Supervise students when appropriate under teacher direction.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff across departments.
  • Attend relevant training, meetings and INSET as required.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
