We are looking for an experienced
Legal Counsel to join our UK business as the sole legal professional in the UK .
This is a highly hands-on and independent role , responsible for managing a broad range of legal matters across the UK business, including commercial contracts, legal compliance, corporate matters and general legal advisory.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and cross-functional teams, providing practical and commercially focused legal advice while independently managing day-to-day legal matters and risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Contracts
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.
- Identify contractual risks and provide practical, commercially balanced advice.
- Develop and maintain contract templates and approval processes.
- Legal & Compliance Advisory
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on commercial and operational matters.
- Support compliance with applicable UK laws and regulations.
- Monitor relevant legal developments and advise on their business impact.
- Advise on areas including data protection, consumer protection, advertising and competition law.
- Corporate & Governance
- Support UK corporate governance and general company matters.
- Assist with corporate documentation, approvals and internal governance processes.
- Coordinate with Group Legal and external advisers where required.
- Employment & General Legal Support
- Support HR on employment-related legal matters where required.
- Advise on disputes, claims and other general legal issues.
- Manage external legal counsel for specialist matters when necessary.
- Identify and assess key legal and contractual risks across the UK business.
- Establish practical legal processes and controls.
- Escalate material risks and provide clear recommendations to management.
Requirements
- Minimum
5 years of relevant legal experience , preferably within an in-house or commercial legal environment.
- Strong experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge of UK commercial law and general corporate legal matters.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage legal matters with limited supervision.
- Strong commercial judgement and ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Confident working directly with senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Preferred Experience
- Experience in FMCG, consumer products, consumer electronics, tobacco, vaping or another regulated industry.
- Knowledge of UK GDPR, employment law, intellectual property, advertising or consumer protection.
- Experience managing external legal advisers.
