Our client specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of commercial kitchen ventilation systems. They offer a complete product portfolio including Ventilation Canopies, UV technology, Heat Recovery, Service Distribution Units, Ventilated Ceilings, Pollution Control, Fire Suppression, demand based ventilation and complete controls package. They can offer Maintenance and Service Contracts providing a total turnkey solution from concept to completion and they invest heavily in R&D. The role is based in Rochester, Kent.

Principal purpose or objective of the job: Provide advice and guidance on all aspects of health, safety, quality and environment. To monitor and research new health and safety legislation and best practice, giving guidance on implementation and compliance.

Main duties/key tasks/key result areas:

  • Auditing production, monitoring any unsafe behaviour or breaks in regulations
  • Inspecting production equipment and processes to make sure they are safe
  • Focusing on prevention by ensuring equipment maintenance and employee training is up to date
  • Creating and implementing training plans
  • Assessing risk and possible safety hazards of all aspects of operations
  • Creating safety plans that include suggested improvements to existing infrastructure and business processes
  • Sharing information, suggestions, and observations with Management to create consistency in safety standards throughout
  • Meeting company health and safety goals
  • Managing a H&S Committee and organising bi-annual meetings
  • Conducting new starter health and safety inductions
  • Supporting and issuing operator and maintenance manuals
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect the industry
  • Preparing health safety strategies and developing internal policy
  • Managing accident report records, investigating causes of accidents, near misses and other unsafe conditions where required and finding the best way to prevent future accidents
  • Maintaining ISO14001, ISO9001 and HSE documentation for audits both internal and external
  • Producing Method Statement and Risk Assessment for site installations
  • Maintaining RIDDOR records and KPI’s
  • Ensuring all first aid equipment is kept safe and up to date
  • Maintaining fire drill and PAT testing records
  • Managing maintenance contracts for equipment with legislative safety requirements

Candidate Profile: Excellent written and communication skills in order to explain health and safety processes to stakeholders. A highly motivated and experienced professional with a strong background in health and safety regulations. Extensive knowledge of HSE standards, risk management, and compliance. An excellent eye for detail to identify and prevent potential hazards.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Desirable: Proven experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in a Manufacturing environment. Previous engineering/technical experience
  • Essential: NEBOSH /IOSH certified, IT Literate (Outlook, Work, Excel), Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and deliver training plans, Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices, Experience in writing reports and policies, Organisational skills, Diligent with great attention to detail

Remuneration:

  • Salary: £40,000-£50,000 based on experience
  • Benefits: Contributory pension scheme, Life assurance, Free On-site parking
  • Holidays: 25 days, Birthday and UK Bank Holidays
  • Location: Rochester, Kent: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required). No relocation support available.
