This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Family Solicitor to step into a Head of Family position within a well-established regional law firm. You’ll take the lead on a varied caseload, support and develop colleagues, and play a key role in shaping the future direction of the family offering across North Yorkshire. The role will suit someone who combines strong technical ability with a calm, client-focused approach, and who enjoys building relationships and helping a team perform at its best. You will deliver high-quality advice across a broad range of family law matters, with the autonomy to run files independently and the seniority to guide others. You will also contribute to business planning and the continued growth of the family department.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the delivery of high-quality family law advice across divorce and separation, children matters, and financial remedy work
  • Managing your own caseload with appropriate autonomy, ensuring matters progress efficiently and to a high standard
  • Attending and representing clients at hearings and directions appointments as an advocate where appropriate
  • Drafting and reviewing key documents including statements, consent orders, settlement agreements, and witness documents
  • Negotiating outcomes that are practical, fair, and aligned with client priorities
  • Maintaining excellent client care, with clear communication and proactive updates throughout each matter
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing junior colleagues and support staff
  • Supporting file management standards, compliance, and quality assurance, including confidentiality and GDPR
  • Contributing to business planning, process improvement, and the continued growth of the department
  • Building and maintaining referrer relationships and supporting marketing and community engagement activity

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with significant family law experience (ideally 5+ years PQE)
  • Strong experience across divorce, children matters, and financial remedy work
  • Confident advocate with excellent drafting, negotiation, and case management skills
  • Proven ability to manage client expectations sensitively and professionally
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and confidence using case management systems

Desirable

  • Member of Resolution and/or the Law Society Family Panel
  • Experience supervising and developing others, or clear readiness to step into a leadership role
  • A proactive approach to business development and building referrer relationships
