The opportunity
This hire sits within an established specialist tax team. Depending on your level, you’ll take ownership of your own client portfolio and play a key role in delivering R&D claims and advisory support, while contributing to team performance and workflow planning.
Location and working arrangements
Glasgow-based role with hybrid working. Flexibility around office attendance (to be discussed at shortlist stage).
What you’ll be doing
- R&D claim delivery and technical analysis
- Deliver end-to-end R&D tax work, including fact-finding, technical assessment, and claim preparation
- Analyse projects and expenditure against relevant guidance and legislation
- Draft clear, well-structured technical narratives and supporting documentation
- Support responses to HMRC queries and ensure claims are robust and well evidenced
- Client relationships and advisory support
- Build trusted relationships with clients through regular contact and well-managed delivery
- Translate complex technical points into clear, practical advice for non-tax stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to add value and introduce wider services where appropriate
- Portfolio ownership and workflow contribution
- Manage your own portfolio (size and complexity dependent on level)
- Contribute to workflow planning and help keep delivery on track across deadlines
- Support revenue and profitability targets through strong client service and efficient delivery
What we’re looking for
To be considered, you should be able to demonstrate:
- 3–7+ years’ UK practice experience in R&D tax (or a closely related tax/advisory role with strong R&D exposure)
- Experience operating at Senior / Assistant Manager / Manager level (or ready to step up)
- Strong working knowledge of:
- UK R&D tax reliefs and incentives (SME and/or large company regimes)
- Technical report writing and claim documentation
- Client interviewing / fact-finding to capture qualifying activities and costs
- Handling or supporting HMRC enquiries and correspondence
- Confident client-facing skills and the ability to manage expectations and timelines
Qualifications (one of the below is preferred; strong experience is essential):
- CTA (or part-qualified) and/or ATT
- ACA / ACCA / CA with relevant tax/R&D experience
Salary and benefits
Salary: £45,000–£65,000 basic (dependent on experience and level) + performance-related bonus
